China’s Alibaba takes another swipe at America’s AI supremacy

Alibaba has released Qwen3.8-Max, a 2.4-trillion-parameter AI model that it says rivals leading systems from Anthropic, OpenAI, and Moonshot AI. The company plans to publish the model’s weights, reinforcing the Chinese AI industry’s preference for open-weight technology and intensifying competition with US developers.
