Popular sweeteners may leave effects that last for generations

A mouse study found that sucralose and stevia altered gut bacteria, glucose regulation, fatty-acid levels, and gene activity. Some changes continued in later generations, particularly after sucralose exposure, but the findings do not establish causation or show that the same effects occur in humans.
