Butterfly wings create dazzling optical illusions

A study suggests that moving patterns on butterfly wings can mislead predators about a butterfly’s speed and direction, causing attacks to miss. Camera footage, a survey of European species, a touchscreen experiment and computer simulations all supported the finding.
